John Stamos will always be a hand for Dave Coulier to hold onto.
That’s the pledge he made to his Full House costar, who revealed his stage 3 Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosis during the Nov. 13 episode of Today.
“My brother from day 1,” John wrote on Instagram alongside a photo carousel of the two over the years. “Love you @dcoulier and I’ll be by your side through it all.”
In fact, Dave, 65, knew he wanted to share cancer diagnosis with his Full House family early on, posting his health news in a group chat with John and several of their castmates—including Andrea Barber, Candace Cameron Bure, Lori Loughlin, Jodie Sweetin and Scott Weinger, as well as series creator Jeff Franklin—before sharing the news publicly.
“I didn't want them to hear it from someone else,” Dave told People, “so I sent a text message out.”
Noting the outpouring of support he received, the actor couldn’t help but reflect on the group’s decades-long bond.
“It really is overwhelming the love that we have for each other,” he went on. “We've been there for so many years for each other and it's pretty remarkable.”
During his Today appearance, Dave told co-anchor Hoda Kotb he received his diagnosis just five weeks prior to the sit-down.
“In that time, I've had three surgeries, I've had chemo, I've lost a little bit of hair,” he said. “I kind of look like a little baby bird now, but it has been a roller coaster ride for sure.”
And although he pointed out his cancer is “90 plus percent” curable, he recalled telling wife Melissa Bring he’s accepted whatever fate has in store.
“I told Melissa I don’t know why, but I [am] OK with whatever the news [is] going to be no matter how devastating," he said in a phone interview with Today.com. "I can’t explain where that came from. I’ve had an incredible life. I’ve had the most amazing people in my life. This has been an extraordinary journey, and I’m OK if this is the end of the journey.”
